## Castlereagh Street, Belfast Flag Protest 6th Jan 2013 ## The Protest started and Ended very peacefully with over 100 in attendance,The officers on the ground kept to a minimum. After 30 mins or so the Protest moved down the road to the lights and it was a face to face stand off as such with people from the strand were out on their side of the street, At this stage the TSG's moved in and the officers started piling out like they were ready for a fight.. All the Protestors did was move down to the junction and these officers steaming in actually drew the crowd out further.. Thankfully The superintendant on the ground with us from the start intervened and the TSG's quickly withdrew into their vehicles and the situation then became less volatile. There was a bit of light banter etc between the protestors and police and the protest ended with a roll of or National Anthem.. The road started to clear and others started to depart for home though there were many who remained on the side of the road etc as is normal with the protests. a few bangers were let of on the odd occasion at the officers feet but they more or less shrugged these of, and there was a few people having the usual words with police.. However as this was on the interface i suppose it wouldnt be long before something happened.
