Toyota has officially unveiled the 2012 Camry. On the styling front, the model has a familiar design with sharper lines and angular headlights. More notably, the SE variant is distinguished by an aerodynamic body kit, a three-spoke steering wheel (with paddle shifters) and metallic trim. Inside, the cabin has a new dashboard, redesigned seats, Bluetooth/USB connectivity and a 6.1-inch Entune infotainment system. Options include the usual suspects as well as a back-up camera, GPS navigation and a JBL audio system. Under the hood, three engines are available. The entry-level 2.5-liter four-cylinder produces 178 hp (133 kW / 180 PS) and 170 lb-ft (230 Nm) of torque. It enables the model to have an EPA-estimated fuel economy rating of 25 mpg city / 35 mpg highway. Moving up to the 3.5-liter V6 rewards drivers with 268 hp (200 kW / 272 PS) and 248 lb-ft (336 Nm) of torque. Sadly, the added power comes at a cost as the fuel economy dips to an estimated 21 mpg city / 30 mpg highway. Last but not least, the hybrid has a 156 hp (116 kW / 158 PS) 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and a 141 hp (105 kW / 143 PS) electric motor. This setup enables the car to accelerate from 0-60 mph in 7.6 seconds and return an estimated 43 mph city / 39 mpg highway. I finally got around to seafoaming my 2006 Mazda RX-8, and it really worked! The smoke show proved some decent results, lol. The engine has 104500 miles on it, and I'm pretty sure it has never been seafoamed before. I unhooked the crankshaft sensor and the MAF sensor, and used the vacuum ports on the passenger side of the engine to draw in the seafoam, and then let the car sit for about an hour before cranking it back up. Sorry about the smoke clouding up the camera, I didn't have anywhere else to put it.

(MoneyWatch) Honda is introducing a redesigned CR-V today at the Los Angeles Auto Show in hopes the small SUV can regain its top-selling perch. The vehicle was the top-selling SUV in the US before a series of supply issues -- first from the Japanese earthquake and tsunami, and later due to floods in Thailand -- cut its sales. The new CR-V design is an update of the previous look, as opposed to the dramatic makeover being given to its competitor, the Ford Escape, which took over the No. 1 spot after Honda hit supply bumps. The 2012 CR-V looks a bit more lithe, with a lower roof line and improved aerodynamics. That reduction in wind resistance will help improve expected mileage ratings to 22 MPG in city driving and 31 on the highway for the two-wheel-drive model (a jump from 21 city, 28 highway for the 2011 version). The four-wheel-drive version will likely be rated at 22 city, 30 highway, which Honda says will be the best in class for a four-wheel-drive SUV. Improved rear suspension should lead to a smoother ride, according to Honda engineers. In a test drive last week at a press event, the CR-V generally rode comfortably on parkways north of New York City but seemed a little jumpy over rough pavement. Acceleration from the 2.4-liter, 185-horsepower four-cylinder engine seemed to lag a bit when I hit the pedal hard -- probably because the transmission is tuned to run in the highest feasible gear to maximize gas mileage. The system is trained to recognize the operator's voice, "creating a personal profile and allowing for up to two different voice profiles in various languages," said Kia in a statement. EL CAJON - August 21, 2011 - An officer is shot right in front of a news camera. The entire event is caught on camera including shots fired, officer rescue, SWAT standoff, house fire, helicopter water drops, and more. The suspect, Kevin Collier, shot his 1-year old daughter, his mother-in-law and then police showed up (me too). Upon arriving, officers were met with gunfire from the suspect who had a rifle of some sort. Officer Jared Slocum was struck in the left temple, where it exited the rear of his skull. He was NOT shot in the neck, as it appears. The suspect then set the house on fire, before shooting himself. The fire department could not approach because officers could not confirm if the suspect was dead or not. Firefighters are not going to walk up to a home with the possibility of a man inside with a rifle. Officers requested Mercy Air for transport, but instead took the wounded officer by ground in a patrol car as it would be much quicker. This was on a dead-end street, so the rescue of having to pass the line of fire was very risky. A gas line explodes at one point (bluish smoke). SWAT set up and work with the fire department to help slow the rate of spread. Two helicopters begin water drops, which I have never seen before on a structure, only brush fires. Officer Slocum is doing well, but has decided to "medically retire" from the El Cajon Police Department, move, and go back to college.
